The Final Step of Christmas- The Wrapping

With only 4 more sleeps until Christmas, you should have all of your gifts purchased and now thinking of wrapping those bad daddies!
Last weekend i hosted my 2nd annual Christmas Wrapping Party for some friends and we had so much fun! As an entrance fee, each guest was asked to bring a non perishable food item and we managed to get 3 big bags full which were greatly appreciated!
There were snacks and drinks for consumption as well as wrap, ribbon, tags, tape and bows. The festive music was turned up and everyones gifts looked great.
Thanks to Photographik for the studio space, Corrina Walker for the great photos, Pretty Sweet for the delicious cookies, Special Event Rentals for decor and Amborella Floral for the sweet smelling greenery.
Take a look and i hope it inspires you to  make the wrapping of your gifts just as beautiful as what is on the inside!

How To Get Your Celebrity Wedding

We all love a good celebrity wedding, mostly because they are the things that dreams are made of! Swans, thrones and flower walls are not something that appear in our wedding budgets, but we enjoy it when spend their mont on it.
In the past couple of years, we have found that our favourite A listers have not only stepped up their wedding game, but are now being a bit more realistic with their plans. We have compiled a few of our favourite celebrity weddings and chosen elements that you can easily accomplish in your big day.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds

Martha Stewart Weddings

Blake's now iconic dessert table looked amazing and has changed the way we serve desserts! Different heights jars and plates keep it interesting to the eye and the mixture of flavours pleases the stomach! They had s'mores bars, mini strawberry shortcakes, lemon tarts and popcorn!  This can be doubled up as your guests favour, or replace the traditional dessert all together!

Martha Stewart Weddings
The bouquet Blake choose was so perfect. A mixture of pink jasmine, dusty miller, andromeda and blushing bride hydrangea. Some of the petals were dipped in gold sparkle! Who doesn't love sparkles and flowers! Make sure your flowers are in season so you can get the best price for them and that they are readily available.

Lauren Conrad and William Tell

Lauren said she saw a brass apple at a flee market and because of Williams name, she continued the 'apple' theme from there. (For those of you that don't know, William Tell, from the story, shot an apple of a boys head) Incorporating something personal about the two of you into your wedding is such a nice idea and can ultimately become your muse.

US Magazine

The extra long veil was actually added on for a few shots. Who doesn't love a bit of drama?!

US Magazine

Instead of a sweetheart tabs (we know its a cute idea, but you are actually isolating yourselves from the party and your guests) how about adding a love seat or extra special chairs for the two of you at your head table?

US Magazine

A welcome bag is such a great idea to make your out of town guests feel, well for lack of a better word, welcome! Including local products, essentials and fun things like your grooms favourite candy is a nice treat. You can also make it tie into the theme of your wedding, or use the same colours.

Ashley Tisdale and Christopher French

Brides.com

Choosing your bridesmaids is the easy part, but choosing what they wear, that can get difficult. Us ladies come in all different shapes, sizes, and not everyone will look good or feel comfortable in the same thing. Be mindful of this as these special ladies are your closest friends and you wouldn't want them to resent you for making them look like a marshmallow on your special day would you?
Ashlee's maids look stunning. Not only in different dresses, but different colours too. For consistency, they all carried the same blooms and had their hair very similar. This way they still stood out as part of the bridal party. Remember, just because they are bridesmaids, doesn't mean that they have to buy a 'bridesmaids' dress.

Kate Moss and Jamie Hince

Boho chic has been huge this year and Kate Moss has it down to a tee.

An outside wedding and a bridal party of children screams fun! Having everyone in white and different floral crowns is so cute and gives it a very natural ethereal feel. Perfect, if you have the weather for it. Few decorations are needed when you are embracing your surroundings. This is great if you are on a bit of a budget too.

Solange Knowles and Alan Furguson

Not really a dress wearing girl? Well, Solange raised the bar! Sporting a super chic white jumpsuit and still looking bridal, she showed us its not always about the dress!

US Magazine
If you live close to the venue, why spend money on limo? Riding a bike or walking can make a cute photo too! Solange also showing us that capes aren't just for winter weddings! If you want to be a super hero on your wedding day then do it!

Making your wedding day personal to the two of you mostly means not caring what other people think and if you want to have burgers and fries because that is what makes you happy, then go for it. Celebrity weddings are all about being personal and those are the aspects that make them stand out.
You do you!

Calgary Loves a Western Wedding

For the next 10 days, its OK to wear mixed matched denim. Its ok to drink at 10am and its ok to eat as much fried food as humanly possible? Why? Because its Stampede!!!!

Calgary is pretty much on hold at the beginning of July because the Stampede comes to town. The inner Cowgirl and Cowboy comes out of us all and if you are recently engaged, you get 'barn fever'. Im talking hay bails, mason jars and plaid, and 'aint nothing wrong with that if its done well!

Here are my favourite barn/western inspired weddings for you to peruse over at your desk today.

Coachella Wedding

Monday is here and I think we would all rather be partying down at Coachella right now. If you have a ring on your finger and a rave in your heart, we have put together some easy ways to incorporate our favourite festival into your big day.

1. Either don it yourself or have your bridesmaids rock it, but flower crowns scream care free, whimsical nature loving raver!

Green Wedding Shoes, Wedding Chicks, Bridal Musings, Wedding Sparrow, Style Me Pretty

2. Boho stationery is the perfect way to subtly include some Coachella style into your wedding, and the best thing, unless you know, you won't know!

Ruffled Blog, Trina Turk, Pretty Blog, Etsy, Wed Lux

3. Tassels. A festival, boho, Coachella wedding isn't a wedding without a few strategically placed tassels.

AFloral, And Then We Saved, Etsy, You Are My Fave

4. Decor and location is key. You wouldn't have a Coachella wedding in a 5 star hotel. Outside with nature is perfect. Adding quirky accents to your decor will also get your guests ready to party.

One Fab Day, Papakata, Ruffled blog, Wedding Wire
Make sure your guests have a good time and party hard! Tambourines, glow sticks and whistles will make your dance unforgettable! We all have an inner hippy child inside so let it come out and play on your big day!

White on White on White Say What?

When you start planning your wedding, I can 100% guarantee you that no matter what vendor you start with they will always always ask you, "what are your wedding colours?"
As annoying as it might be, it is a very important part of your planning process. It will help you make your decisions on invites, flowers, bridesmaids, linens and even cakes and desserts!
But what happens if you don't really have a colour? Can you just do a monochromatic wedding?
Hell Yeah!! Sometimes less is more and you can still have the most beautiful day with just one colour.
I have founds some of my favourite images that do white on white on white so well!

Style Me Pretty
Stationery can be so classic and timeless when using just one colour. The only thing is you still need your guests to be able to read the information. Having it blind embossed is an option where the words are pushed in so no ink is used. The other more popular option is to use another darker neutral as your accent colour. Grey and taupe are great alternatives.

Southern Weddings

A beautiful wedding cake can still be a focal point without being a a strong colour.  By adding some texture in the icing and maybe a cake topper or some florals really enhance the dessert. You can make the inside what ever colour and flavour you like.

Amy Atlas

Speaking of desserts, if you are planning on a dessert bar, this one takes the cake! Marshmallows, rock candy, cupcakes, and macarons, all in one colour really do make a statement, and i bet they taste good too!

Style Me Pretty
Don't forget your accessories! Bridal shoes are most commonly ivory or white, so they are pretty easy to come by. You can get simple shoes, open toes, blinged out or bowed up! What ever suits your personality.

Bridal guide
When you choose your flowers, one colour in one type can make your heart skip a beat! As long as they are in season, it can work out cheaper and a lot easier for you to make a decision. This gorgeous bouquet looks fluffy enough to eat!

Rustic Folk Weddings
A white suit isn't for everyone, but if your groom can pull it off, good for him! If you still want the monochromatic look, try a light tan with a white tie and pocket square. It is light enough and will look great next your white dress!

100 Layer Cake
If you are fully committed to the ultimate white wedding, then you should consider your bridal party. Having all your attendants in white is a bold look and when done right is stunning. Just make sure their dresses aren't as breathtaking as yours! Nude shoes also add to the look.

Elizabeth Ann Designs
Although you may not be able to serve white food, you can decorate your tables in white. While linens, white napkins and white menus. By adding a glass charger plate creates more depth and interest to your place settings. Experimenting with different napkins fold can also be fun.

Ruffled Blog
Saving the best until last. The ceremony. Regardless of the location, hotel, barn, warehouse or field, adding white accents makes it serene, simple and clean looking. White chairs and aisle. Drapes at the alter or on the ceiling ties it all together.

Choosing your wedding colours doesn't have to make you see red, but it is one of the first things you need to do. Try playing around with your favourite colours in different shades, or taking inspiration from your venue or a favourite outfit. Most importantly have fun with it!

The Perfect Proposal

HAPPY VALENTINES DAY!!

I thought I would share my own little bit of love with you today.

I got engaged in October last year and was hands down the best day of my life.

Just minding my own business at work when I get called upstairs to help out with something. When I get to the top of the stairs I'm greeted by my two good friends Christy from Christy D Swanberg Photography and Ixchel from Parfait Productions. Both with cameras in hand.

Calgary Proposal Claudette Marie Events

I get handed an envelope with my name on and inside was a beautiful card by Ali at Modern Pulp, that told me to meet Jonathan in the park with my pink skirt on. Here is some background info. I hate surprises. I knew this was coming soon but not sure how and when but just soon. I had helped out with Adorn Boutiques grand opening and got myself a beautiful tulle skirt and decided it was the perfect outfit to be proposed in...

Jonathan had packed a bag for me with my tulle skirt and pretty much my entire make up table, shoes and choices of tops, just to be safe. We bundled up into Christys car and were on our way to a secret destination.

We pull up outside The Ranche at Fish Creek Park and Christy and Ixchel leave me to wait inside. Once they are ready, i am lead down a path where Justin, the other half of Parfait Productions was hiding, and i can see balloons and Jonathan in the distance. Once i see him and he sees me there were a lot of tears.

There were 2 chairs, one from Orange Trunk Vintage Rentals and the other was from Christys house, and in-between the two were the biggest floral arrangement i had seen from Misha at Amborella Floral.

Jonathan said some words and we cried some more, then he got down on one knee and i threw my arms around him!!! He hadn't even asked yet so i got in trouble for not letting him finish.

Everything was perfect! The ring was amazing and exactly what i had been hinting shamelessly at, the weather was great and turned into a beautiful sunset to match my skirt and the execution was flawless.
We drank some pink champagne and a took a few more shots, and then Frank made an appearance! He stole the show with his adorable face. If anyone is looking for a dog model, he's your guy.

Jonathan made 3 dinner reservation as i am the most indecisive person when it comes to food. We drove home, and i had the monstrous florals between my legs and i couldn't see out the window, dropped Frank home and went to Vintage for dinner.
Best. Day. Ever!!!!
Thanks to everyone who was involved and kept it a secret! I couldn't have asked for anything more.
